MJ Creative Solution’s (MJCS) founder, Michael John, has been creating music for film producers, corporations and ad agencies for 20 years so he’s learned a few things about using emotion to move people.

Back around 2000, his need for a website prompted him to hand-code one himself because he knew he’d want to frequently update it. Once you have the story, you really need a plan on how to “make it famous.”   The generic word is “marketing” but we think “make it famous” says it like it is.  Now that might mean making it “famous” to 2000 or 20 prospects - but maybe 20 prospect conversions are all you need.  Simple.

We’ve seen so much fluff over the years we could be in the pillow business.   A good marketing plan should simply layout practical steps for realistic goal achievement.

Let’s see how easy this is - so let’s skip the web, media and print and go “old school.”

GOAL: You want 1 new “higher end” client per week?  (Let’s break that down into achievable daily goals with associated tasks.)

  • Tell your “elevator” story version via 5 cold calls
  • Pass out 10 business cards
  • Hand out 10 flyers with a promotional special

By doing this 5 days per week, you have connected personally with 125 people and over a month that’s 500 new prospects!   That’s progress… and easy to do with a good story.

Now, I understand that many of you need to reach 100’s and 1000’s each week ~ again, with a good story, a good plan, and using media and the web and WORKING the plan…it’s truly possible.

STOP! Don’t Hire Your Nephew

We have salvaged many “buddy deals gone bad” and have heard a myriad of website horror stories:  The website that HAD a decent ranking only to drop through the floor when a new design revamp killed it.  Or what about the super cool but “hard to navigate” website that nobody could actually get around on?   Boring content…missed markets?  Be careful.

What about saving a buck and doing it yourself?  Sure, go make a website tonight with Yahoo, Google or GoDaddy but “do it yourself” usually means, “do it AGAIN.”  The money you think you could save by being your own “geek” or hiring your nephew is easily lost in time, stress, and a failed end result.  Bricks and mortar no more, your online presence is where it’s at and where you MUST invest wisely.


What about SEO or SEM?   At MJCS, we don’t use any tricks or gimmicks here.  We take a simple and conservative approach that we think works. All of those website tricks and gimmicks are like the Wall-Street tricks and gimmicks…they cause recessions!

Still not convinced?   Let’s talk about first impressions ~ Consider how you yourself are impressed by a well-crafted website or message versus a lame one.  Research shows that people make that first impression within 1/20th of a second. Yikes!  If your total brand image (pictures, colors, copy, layout, logo, video, audio, message) appears to be unprofessional, many prospects won’t even bother to dig for that great page of information you just “KNOW they’ll be hooked by if they could just get there.”   They’ll go to #2 in the search ranking.  So you see how saving a buck here is not really saving a buck?
